A Vision Born in Post-War Italy

From a Turin workshop in 1946 to the permanent collection of MoMA — the remarkable journey of Cisitalia.

The Founder

Cisitalia — Compagnia Industriale Sportiva Italia — was founded in 1946 by Piero Dusio, an industrialist and amateur racing driver in Turin. To realize his vision, Dusio assembled some of the finest talent in the Italian automotive industry, including engineer Dante Giacosa and designer Giovanni Savonuzzi.

The first car produced was the D46 Monoposto, a single-seater racer designed for the newly emerging Formula 2 category. Known for its lightweight construction and superb handling, the D46 quickly made its mark with legendary drivers like Tazio Nuvolari, Alberto Ascari, and Piero Taruffi at the wheel.

The Masterpiece

In 1947, Pinin Farina created the 202 GT — a car whose handcrafted aluminum body, shaped over wooden forms, was an aesthetic and technical achievement that transformed postwar automobile design. When unveiled at the Villa d'Este Gold Cup show and the Paris Motor Show, it was an immediate sensation.

Only approximately 170 examples were produced between 1947 and 1952, with bodies crafted by Pinin Farina, Vignale, and Stabilimenti Farina. In 1951, the Museum of Modern Art in New York honored the 202 in its groundbreaking "Eight Automobiles" exhibition — the first car ever to enter a museum's permanent collection.

Documenting Originality

The CCNA is building a comprehensive archive of Cisitalia restoration projects to document the many detail items that are essential for maintaining originality and authenticity.

Restoration of these rare machines requires deep expertise. With only approximately 200 cars ever produced — most with handcrafted aluminum bodies shaped over wooden forms — every detail matters. The club serves as a clearing house for technical knowledge, parts sourcing, and restoration guidance.

We offer items of interest for sale as they become available, and custom fabrication of parts is offered on occasion. Input and questions from fellow enthusiasts are always encouraged.
